Top 10 Wood Care Tips for Wooden Furniture and Products

- Protect your wooden furniture from too much sunlight as this can cause the drying and even bleaching of wooden furniture.
- While polishing wood, make sure that the polish you are going to use is appropriate for the wood. Read the label or you can also ask the wood furniture manufacturer that what type of polish brand is required for a particular wood. The polishes with 'multi finish' label can be used on any kind of wood. Try using the same brand of polish every time as different polish will lead to somewhat different color.
- Regular polishing causes layering. Use commercial wood cleaner to remove the build up layers of polish. Remove these layers only if these are affecting the shine of wooden furniture and leading to dullness.
- Use good quality sealer to avoid any kind of stain to become permanent over the contemporary as well as modern wood furniture.
- To give wood a long life and a natural sheen, always wipe it along the direction of the grains.
- Never put any decorative item directly on the wood. Always use some flat decorative cloth or sheet to place that. This will reduce the chances of getting scratches.
- In order to remove the alcohol stains from wooden furniture or any other wood product use boiled linseed oil, paste wax or silver polish. For few finishes, use of ammonia is also beneficial. For this put few drops of ammonia on a damp cloth and then rub this on the affected area to get the result.
- To remove wax, first harden the wax by rubbing ice on it. Then immediately remove the water drops over and around it, as water also causes stain on some kinds of wood. Use your finger to remove the wax or grease. To remove the remaining wax take a dull edge knife or butter knife and gently scrap the wax out.
- To remove grease or wax you can also use another method in which a blotter is placed over the stain then a warm iron is lightly placed over it. The blotter will soak the grease as your wood will be free from this.
- Nail paint stains can be removed by rubbing a cloth dabbed in mineral spirits. Never use nail polish remover as this will damage the wood beneath.
